Aron Bukh (1923-2006)
Born to a Jewish merchant family, Aron Bukh moved to Moscow with his family in 1926. His artistic talent emerged early; at 14, he began studying at the House of Artistic Education for Children in Moscow's Soviet District. His studies were interrupted in 1941 by World War II. At 18, he evacuated with his family to Engels, Saratov Oblast, where he worked in a defense plant from 1941 to 1944.
Returning to Moscow in 1944, he attended the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions art studio from 1944 to 1945, studying under K. F. Yuon. In 1947, he graduated with honors from the Moscow Regional Art School "In Memory of 1905," under the tutelage of V. N. Baksheev. His diploma work was the painting "Spring on Sretenka Boulevard."
From 1948, he participated in Moscow, republican, and all-Union art exhibitions. He became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR in 1959.
Aron Bukh painted only what he loved: flowers, nudes, forests, and old Moscow. Most of all, however, he painted his wife, Maya. He developed a unique and distinctive style, considering himself a singular and irreplaceable artistic phenomenon.
The work of Moscow artist Aron Bukh is known to art connoisseurs worldwide. His works are included in the collection of the Spanish Queen, and in the USA, he was dubbed the "Russian Van Gogh." Key elements of Bukh's inimitable style are his vibrant palette of pure colors and impasto technique. The artist himself stated: "I see the meaning of my life and work in giving people healing through light. Therefore, I work tirelessly and continuously."
His popular paintings were constantly exhibited at various domestic and international exhibitions. Aron Bukh's works are now in museums across the Russian Federation, including the Tretyakov Gallery, the Arkhangelsk Regional Museum of Fine Arts, the Penza Regional Art Gallery named after K. A. Savitsky, the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow, the Yuri Gagarin United Memorial Museum in Gagarin, the Pereslavl-Zalessky Historical and Art Museum, as well as in museums and private collections in over 20 countries across America, Asia, and Europe.
